Can be done alone or in a group

Doesnt improve anaerobic fitness

Fartlek
interval training includes periods of work followed by periods of rest or light work. However, sessions include sprints of varying distances

Can be done on a variety of terrains
Can include rest periods or be continous

May not be suitable terrain nearby
Difficult for the coach to monitor
Circuit training
Circuit training involves a number of exercises arranged so as to avoid exercising the same muscle groups consecutively

Good source of all round fitness

Needs to be set up and well planned out
Important to work hard yet people pace themselves normally
Interval training
The aim of interval training is to have a high-intensity, high-quality workout always done at a fast pace

Includes rest periods
Includes repeated sprints which is aerobic

Can be intense so needs full commitment
Ome people find repeated intervals boring
Plyometrics
Plyometrics are exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time

Improves explosive fitness
Exercises can be designed for specific performances

Need knowledge of your event or a coach
Needs to progress gradually, rest and recovery are important
Weight training
Weight training uses progressive resistance either in the form of actual weight lifted or in terms of the number of times the weight is lifted
