16
Q

What are some disadvantages of circuit training?

A

The circuit needs t o be set up and well planned out
It is important to work hard on each circuit but people often pace themselves

17
Q

What is interval training?

A

Physical training involving alternating stages of high and low-intensity activity

18
Q

What are advantages of interval training?

A

Includes repeated sprints, which is anaerobic
Included a rest period

19
Q

What are disadvantages of interval training?

A

Can be intense so needs full commitment
Some people find repeating intervals boring

20
Q

What components of fitness does interval training test?

A

Cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength

21
Q

What is plyometrics training?

A

Exercises where muscles use maximum force in short intervals of time

22
Q

What are two advantages of plyometrics training?

A

Exercises can be designed for a specific performances e.g. high jump
Improves explosive fitness

23
Q

What are disadvantages of plyometrics training?

A

Need knowledge of your event or a coach
Need to progress gradually, as rest and recovery are important

24
Q

What componet of fitness does plyometric training test?

A

Muscular strength

25
Q

What should you do in weight training?

A

Weight training uses progressive resistance either in
the form of actual weight lifted or in terms of the
number of times the weight is lifted
Number of exercises; six to eight exercises would make
a suitable core training programme
Weight used; the safest amount is about 40-50% of the
five repetition maximum
Number of reps; it is usual to do 8-10 reps per set, less
for strength, for more muscular endurance
Number of sets; it is usually to do 3 but if you haven’t
done weight training before possibly start with 2
How fast the exercise is done; to be in control of the
weights each rep should take 2 secs
Rest between sets; recovery between sets should be
between 1-2 mins

26
Q

What is weight training?

A

Involves shifting weight to increase the strength of the muscle using a programme of exercises

27
Q

What are advantages of weight training?

A

Can be used to improve strength, muscular endurance or power
Wide variety of exercises to choose from

28
Q

What are disadvantages of weight training?

A

Needs suitable facilities and equipment
Need knowledge of safety and technique

29
Q

What component of fitness is weight training?

A

Muscular strength
