soc 3 Flashcards
what are the six skill related components of fitness?
-agility
-balance
-co-ordination
-power
-reaction time
-speed
agility
the ability to change position and control the body at speed.
what sports require agility?
a winger in football as they need quick changes of direction to beat the fullback, a rugby player needs it to dodge tackles from a defender
what is balance?
being able to keep the body stable while at rest or on the move
what are the two types of balance?
static balance, keeping the body stable while stationary e.g. doing a handstand. dynamic balance is maintaining a controlled, stable position while moving, e.g hammer throwing.
coordination
the ability to use two or more body parts together
what are the different types of coordination?
foot-eye co-ordination
chest-eye or thigh-eye co-ordination
head-eye co-ordination
hand-eye co-ordination
give me an example of a sport that requires coordination?
you need coordination in cricket as you have to use two or more body parts to hit the ball like in cricket you have to move your feet and use your hands to hit the ball
give me an example of a sport that needs balance
a sport that needs balance would be in football as you need to be able to stay on your feet even if you get kicked
power
the ability to undertake strength performances quickly.
power=strength x speed
when do athletes use power?
they use power to propel themselves
what sports would you need power in?
football, to jump and head the ball and in the high jump
what is reaction time?
the time between a stimulus and a movement in response to it
what sports do you need reaction time for?
you need it when your reacting to the movement of the ball or starting running from a whistle
what is speed?
the rate at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance
