How to test/find out you’re maximum heart rate?
220 - your age (e.g a 15 year old’s would be 205BPM)
What is specificity in terms of principles of training?
Matching training to requirements of an activity.
What is progressive overload in terms of principles of training?
Gradually increasing the amount or overload to gain fitness without the risk of injury.
What are individual needs in terms of principles of training?
Matching the training to the requirements of an individual.
Give an example of specificity in terms of principles of training.
A marathon runner utilising continous training to mimic the actual race.
Give an example of progressive overload in terms of principles of training.
In the gym, progressively increase the weight, reps, sets and decrease rest time.
What does FITT stand for?
Frequency
Intensity
Time
Type
What is the definition of Frequency? (FITT)
How often you train. Frequency can help you manage progressive overload.
What is the definition of Intensity? (FITT)
How hard somebody trains. Intensity of training varies from person to person depending on basline fitness, aims and type of training.
What is the definition of Type? (FITT)
The method of training to achieve particular goals. Type overlaps with the principle of specificity.
What is the definition of Time? (FITT)
How long each training session must last in order to be of any benefit and to achieve improvement.
