Commercialisation
Making something available on the market; using something to make profit
Media
The main means of mass communication (television, radio, newspapers and the internet:
Deviance
Behaviour that falls outside the norms or what is thought to be acceltable; goes against the moral values or laws of the sport
Negative deviance
Deviance that has a detrimental effect
Positive deviance
Deviance wwhere there is no interntion to cause harm or break the rules
Sportsmanship
Qualities of fairness, following the rules, being gracious in defeat or victory
Gamesmanship
Bending the rules/laws of the sport without actually breaking them
What are the different participating factors (GASEDP)
- gender
- age
- socio econimic group
- ethinicity
- disability
- people
Why does gender effect rates of engagement in sport
Some sports are still seen as ‘male’ or ‘female’ such as rugby and netball
Why does age effect rates of engagement in sport
Some sports suit younger athletes such as younger people are more likely to be more flexible so gymnastics whereas older athletes would play something like golf or bowls
Why does socio economic groups effect rates of engagement in sport
Can affect the choice of sport, but things change; cost can be a factor
Why does ethnicity effect rates of engagement in sport
Racism in sport can effect your mental health and some sports are more common in certain groups
Why does disability effect rates of engagement in sport
Rescources and opportunities may be fewer
Advantages of commercialisation:
More funding, wider audience, active lifestyle, awareness
Disadvantages of commercialisation:
Higher prices, sponsors lead sport, ‘beauty parade’
