Exercise improves the cardiovascular system, and helps to reduce resting blood pressure.
Muscular strength and muscular endurance.
Strength training can also improbe general health and fitnes by building strength or muscular endurance
Body composition
For somepeople, phyiscal activity helps weightcontrol. Maintaining a healthy body reduces the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes
Other health benefits
People who are physically fit may also be able to fight off illness more effectively than those who do little exercise
Feeling good
Mnay people take part in physical activity,play sport or embark on an exercise programme becuase they want to feel good
Serotonin
A ‘feel-good’’ chemical in your body- so exercise is not just ‘physically’ beneficial but also emotionally good for you.
Relieving stress and tension
Physical activites can provide a distraction from the problems of daily life, and can releive stress and tension caused by work,school and family pressure
Emotional/psychological challenge
Many sporting activities provide an emotional/psychological as well as physical challenge
For aesthetic appreciation
Enjoying something because it is good to look at
Increasing self-esteem and confidence
Many activities provide a physical challenge. Overcoming this challenge gives a sense of achievement

Most people who exercise and play sport do so because they enjoy it
