Soc 2 Flashcards
5 health related components of fitness
- cardiovascular fitness
- muscular endurance
- muscular strength
- flexibility
- body composition
Cardiovascular fitness (health)
*The ability to work your whole body for a long time.
Muscular strength (health)
*The amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance.
Muscular endurance (health)
- the ability to use voluntary muscles repeatedly without getting tired.
- it enables you to exercise your muscles repeatedly without getting tired.
Flexibility (health)
- the range of motion of your joints.
* if your are flexible you are less likely to get injured.
Body composition (health)

How do you calculate you BMI
Eg weight = 60kg Height = 1.65m Height squared = 2.72m2 60/2.72= 22
6 skill related components of fitness:
- agility
- balance
- co-ordination
- power
- reaction time
- speed
Agility(skill)
*the ability to change position and control the body at speed
Balance(skill)
*being able to keep the body stable while at rest or on the move
Static balance: keeping the body stable while stationary
Dynamic balance: maintaining a controlled, stable position while moving
Co-ordination(skill)
*the ability to use two or more body parts together
Power(skill)
*the ability to undertake strength performances quickly. It can be written as a formula: power=strength x speed
Reaction time(skill)
*the time between the stimulus and a movement in response to it
Speed(skill)
*the rate at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance
