What is the benefit of doing a par-Q
Designed to identify the small amount of adults for whom physical activity may not be appropriate
Why do we perform a warm up
Prepare the joints Prepare the muscles Prepare the mind Prevent injury Prepare the ligaments Prepare the cardiovascular system
What are the three phases of a warm up
Cardiovascular
Stretching-dynamic and static
Sport specific
What is the relevance of the cardiovascular phase
Gradually raising the heart rate towards the working heart rate
Two types of stretching
Static- easy, on the spot stretching without training
Dynamic- stretches that use movements specific to a sport, gradually increasing your reach and speed
Sport specific phase
Warm up
To practice the skills you are about to undertake/use
Cool down
Gradually reducing your heart rate down to resting state
Helps remove lactic acid
