Soc 13 Classification Of Joints Flashcards
The 4 classifications of joints
Pivot
Hinge
Ball and socket
Condyloid
Where does the pivot joint move
The neck
Where does the hinge joint move
The knee elbow and ankle
Where does the ball and socket joint move
The shoulder ans hip
Where does the condyloid joint move
The wrist
What does the candyloid do
allows for flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction movements.
What does the ball and socket do
allow backward, forward, sideways, and rotating movements
What does the hinge do
allowing flexion and extension in one plane with small degrees of motion in other planes.
What does the pivot do
allows rotational movement
What are the 8 movements
Flexion
Extension
Dorsiflexion
Plantar flexion
Abduction
Adduction
Rotation
Circumduction
What does does a ligament do
Ligaments are elastic fibres that joins bone to bone, usually to hold things together and keep them stable.
What does a tendon do
Tendons are non-elastic fibres that attach muscle to bone and help to move them.
Flexion defenition
bending movement that decreases the angle between body parts
Extension defenition
straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts
Adduction defenition
movement that pulls towards the midline of the body
