SLT Flashcards
Ao1 3 points
Much of or behaviour is learned from experiences
Through observation and imitation
Therefore may be through indirect experience aka vicarious learning
Mediational process
4 mental processes in learning
Attention (exposure)
Retention (memory)
Motor reproduction (physical ability/opportunity)
Motivation (direct/vicarious reinforcement)
Bandura
bobo doll experiment
3 groups of 24 children either watched 1. Aggressive adult hitting bobo doll 2. Non aggressive adult 3. Nothing.
Each child taken separately to another room with toys. Experimenter made child angry by not allowing them to play with toys.
Children taken to room with aggressive and non aggressive toys, there for 20 mins and observed through one way mirror
Bandura findings
Watched aggressive model = more imitative aggressive responses. Boys more aggressive and more likely to copy same sex models than girls.
Strength of bandura
Experiment can be replicated as standardised procedures and instructions were used therefore it was reliable and supports psych As a science
Weakness of bandura
Lab studies not ecologically valid so not generalisable to real life.
Observation
Through observational learning, social behaviour like aggression can be learnt
Identification
Similar in some way to model so identify with them , more likely to imitate them. Age gender
Modelling
Form of learning where individuals learn a particular behaviour by observing another individual performing that behaviour
Imitation
Action of using someone/thing as a model and copying their behaviour
Vicarious reinforcement
Indirect experience. Reinforcement that occurs through observing someone else being punished or reinforced for a behaviour
