Q

Supporting evidence but unique

A

Little Hans case study. Fear of white horse around 5 yrs old, esp. black around mouth. Enjoyed getting into bed with mother and repressed longings for her. Supports Oedipus complex and phallic stage. Displaced fear of his father onto horses- Black represents moustache. Fully supports Freud theory. BUT based on neurotic patients who happened to support his theory. Unique so difficult to generalise. Less accuracy, more subjectivity

Not scientific

A

Focus on unconscious - unfalsifiable. Very difficult to study theories like 3 personalities, defence mechanisms, psychosexual stages, they’re all in unconscious mind so we don’t know if they’re deffo happening so can’t study scientifically. No empirical evidence
