A
  1. Individuals within populations vary in phenotype
  2. Phenotypic variation is heritable
  3. Struggle for ecological survival and reproduction
  4. Individuals with certain phenotypes will survive better than others, more likely to survive and reproduce, and thus contribute to next generation. So their alleles will increase in frequency in the population
