Strengths
.His data was qualitative, detailed and focused on real people so his findings were valid.
.Freud saw the power of the unconscious, which could not be easily studied, and found a way of studying it. This was a unique approach.
Weaknesses
Freud’s ideas about dreaming couldn’t be easily tested so cannot be shown to be true or false. This is a WEAKNESS.
The ideas, such as the unconscious or dreamwork cannot be measured objectively, therefore his theory is unscientific.
Case Studies such as Little Hans showed that each analysis was unique to the individual. This meant results cannot be applied to the wider population
