What is the Short- term memory?
Our initial memory store that is temporary and limited
What is Long-term memory?
A memory store that holds potentially limitless amounts of information for up to a lifetime
What is the Duration of memory?
The length of time information can be stored in short-term and long-term memory
The Capacity of memory?
The amount of information that can be stored in short-term and long-term memory
What is Rehearse?
When we repeat information over and over again
What is Displacement?
When the short-term memory becomes ‘full’ and new information pushes out older information
What is Interference?
When new information overtakes older information, for example when a new phone number takes the place of an old number in your memory
What is the duration of short term memory?
18 seconds
What is the duration of long term memory?
18 to 30 seconds
What is the capacity of short term memory?
About 7 items
What is the capacity of long term memory?
Could be unlimited
