Skull, Cranium, intro to Eyes Flashcards
the skull develops from
–ectoderm (neural crest cells in viscerocranium)
–mesoderm (partial, neurocranium)
what surrounds the pituitary stalk?
diaphragama stelle
where does the Dural venous sinus receive blood?
brain (from cerebral veins)
extracranial veins (from scalp)
what is the order of the venous sinuses starting with superior sagittal sinus?
superior sagittal sinus
interior sagittal sinus
straight sinus
confluence
transverse
sigmoid
internal jugular vein
the Dural venous sinuses are between:
periosteal and meningeal layer
what is the first cranial nerve? what does it do?
olfactory (smell)
what passes through the superior orbital fissure?
CN III, CN IV, CN VI (and V1)
what is the second cranial nerve? what does it allow?
optic nerve, vision
what is the most important anastomoses in the body?
circle of willis
what is the basilar artery?
where the left and right vertebral arteries converge
what nerves run through the eye?
optic, supraorbital V1, lacrimal V1, CN VI, CN IV, CNIII, supratrochlear, nasocilliary
what runs through each of the three openings of the eye?
SOF: V1
For. rotundum: V2
For. ovale: V3
(Standing Room Only)
what does the ophthalmic or V1 division do?
sensory:
forehead and scalp
globe
nasal mucosa
what does the maxillary V2 division do?
sensory:
* Skin overlying maxilla
* Upper lip
* Maxillary teeth and
sinuses
* Palate
(comes out infraorbital fissure)
what does the facial nerve motor innervate?
muscles of expression
stapedius
what does the mandibular V3 do?
– Sensory
* Skin overlying mandible
* Floor of mouth
* Mandibular teeth
* Anterior tongue
– Motor
* Muscles of mastication
* Tensor tympani m
the facial nerve exits the skull where?
internal acoustic meatus
what does the facial nerve innervate sensory?
taste for anterior 2/3 tongue
what are the branches of the facial nerve?
temporal
zygomatic
buccal
mandibular
cervical
what is CNVIII?
vestibulocochlear
where is CNVIII and what does it do?
petrous portion of temporal bone
balance/equilibrium
hearing
what is CN IX?
glossopharyngeal
what is the sensory innervation of CN IX?
muscosa: tympanic caviry, Eustachian tube, upper pharynx
chemo and baroreceptor
post 1/3 tongue
CN IX does what sensation for the tongue?
taste and somatic sensation
what is cn x?
vagus
what is the motor innervation provided by cn X?
– Pharyngeal constrictors
– Laryngeal mm
(helps swollow)
what is the sensory innervation for vagus?
epiglottis (taste and sensation)
what para sympathetic innervation does cn x do?
– Thoracic & abdominal viscera
* Smooth muscle
* Glands
what does CN XI do?
motor for SCM and Trap
CN XII exits the skull where?
hypoglossal canal
what is the function of CN XII?
tongue muscles *except palatoglossus
