Skin and Nails Flashcards
how is Vitamin D produced
- sunlight (UVB radiation) converts pre-vitamin D3 to vitamin D3
- liver converts to calcidiol
- kidney converts to calcitriol - vitamin D
what happens in hyperthermia
- thermoreceptors signal to hypothalamus
- causes vasodilation of periferal blood cells and
- sweating
- body temperature returns to normal
what happens in hypothermia
- thermoreceptors signal to hypothalamus
- causes vasoconstriction, shivering
- suprarenal medulla produces epinephrin and norepinephrin, to raise metabolic rate
- TRH and TSH stimulates production of T3 and T4, raising metabolic rate
- body temperature returns to normal
what is the role of the hyodermis
- protective cushion
- insulator
- water and energy store
where are meisnners corpuscles located
papillary region of the dermis
where are melanocytes located
stratum basale of the epidermis
what are the 2 types of melanin
eumelanin - pink to red
pheomelanin - yellow to black/brown
what cells are in the epidermis
- kertinocytes
- melanocytes
- merkel cells
- langerhans cells
what are the 2 types of granules that mature keratinocytes produce in the stratum granulosum
- keratohyaline granules
- lamella granules
what are the 3 stages keratinocytes go through
- maturation
- keratinisation
- desquamation
what are the 2 types of sweat
- eccrine - abundant
- apocrine - develop during puberty
what are the 4 stages of hair growth
- growth: anagen
- regression: catagen
- resting: telogen
- shedding: exogen
