Kidney Flashcards
what are the 3 main areas of the kidney
- cortex
- medulla
- pelvis
what are the 2 types of nephron
cortical and juxtamedullary
where is renin produced
in the afferent artery of the glomerulus in the bowmans capsule of the nephron in the kidney
rate of filtrate formation - glomerula filtration rate
urine is formed at 1ml/min
what the key areas of the nephron
- bowmans capsule
- glomerulus
- prominal tubule
- loop of henle
- distal tubule
- collecting duct
what is obligatory reabsorption
water is obligued to follow the solutes as they are reabsorbed (to maintain the osmotic gradient)
what facultative reabsorption
variable water reabsoption
regulated by the affects of ADH and aldosterone on the principle cells of the renal tubules and collecting ducts
how does ADH work
- vasoconstriction
- fluid reabsorption (aquaporins)
what is the affect of angiotensin II
- sympathetic activity
- reabsorption of Na+ Cl; excretion of K+; H2O retention
- makes the cortex of the adrenal gland produce aldosterone
- arteriola vasoconstriction
- posterior pituitary gland to produce ADH
all this increases BP
what is the filtrate rate of the kidney
125ml/mim
