-basic and complex
-open and closed
-fine and gross
define a basic skill
-simple skills that require lower levels of concentration
-need to be mastered before complex skills are attempted
-e.g. throwing, catching and running
define a complex skill
-more difficult skills that require a higher level of coordination and concentration
-take longer to master
-e.g. synchronised diving, gymnastic vault
define an open skill
-affected by outside or environmental factors such as weather, pitch condition or actions of other player
-e.g. most team sports
define a closed skill
-skills that are unaffected by the environment the performers are in
-Decision making is unecessary
-e.g archery or free throw in basketball
define a fine skill
-involve precise movement that require high levels of accuracy and technique
-involve small muscle movement like wrist or fingers
-e.g. snooker or derving in table tennis
define a gross skill
-skills that use large muscle groups to produce large powerful movements
-force more important than accuracy
-e.g. sprinting, javelin, rugby
