information processing Flashcards
List the parts of the information processing model
-input
-decision making
-output
-feedback
define input
-information received via the senses and previous experiences
-the performer needs to select the most relevant input to act upon
-e.g. oponents body position, communication from team mates
define decision making
-information analysed so the performer can chose the most appropriate response
-experienced performers can make better and faster decisions
define output
-the decision is made and acted upon
-the brain sends information to the muscles, the muscle contract and movement is produced
define feedback
-information recieved about the outcome of the decision
-this knowledge can be stored in memories and used for future decisions
-feedback can be intrinsic (from feeling)
-or extrinsic (from crowd or coach)
explain limited channel capacity hypothesis
-our brains can only process a certain amount of information, too much can lead to overload
-noise from crowd, instuctions from coach and teamates can make it hard to focus on important information
explain single channel hypothesis
-our brains can only process one piece of information at a time
-until one stimulus has been dealt with and a decision can be made, another cannot be acted upon
explain multi channel hypothesis
-the brain has several channels each designated to a different task
-for example verbal information may be processed through one channel and visual another
