Describe a closed skill and give an example

A

A skill that isn’t affected by the environment. They are usually self-paced and occur in fixed or predictable situations

e.g. A gymnast performing a floor routine

Describe an open skill and give an example

A

They’re skills affected by the environment, and their conditions aren’t always fixed. They are mainly perceptual and usually externally paced

e.g. A pass in football

Describe a basic skill and give an example

A

They form the foundation of more complex skills. They do not include complicated movements. Basic skills are often generic to many sports

e.g. Jumping

A

They include complicated movements that require high levels of co-ordination and control. They are usually sport-specific

e.g. A volleyball serve

The cyclist performs each part of the cycling action in one go and it is very difficult to separate the different parts of this motion.

When a performance can be separated into its sub-routines it is referred to as being low organisation.
