Skeletal System Flashcards
- Five Functions of the Skeleton - Four Types of Bones - Names of the Bones of the skeleton
What are the 5 major functions of the skeleton? Full description
- The skeleton frames/ shapes the body and supports all parts of the body.
- The skeleton protects the vital organs of the body

Acts as levers to produce a large range of rapid and powerful movements. Suited to weight bearing, withstand heavy stress and provides sweeping movements.
Function of the short bone
They allow finer movements and absorb heavy impacts
Function of the flat bone
Have broad, smooth surfaces and protection of vital organs. They also provide large areas for the attachment of muscles
Function of the irregular bone
Are very shapes, reinforcing areas where additional strength is needed (keeping the body upright and extra support)
