Name 3 functions of the skeleton
Protection of vital organs; muscle attachment; joints for movement; storing calcium and phosphorus; red and white blood cell production.
Why is the protection of vital organs important for a netball player?
The bones protect the vital organs in the body. This means that if a netball player gets injured then they are protected. This allows the player to carry on playing if they get injured.
What movement occurs at a pivot joint?
Rotation e.g neck
What movement occurs at a hinge joint?
Flexion and extension e.g knee and elbow
What movement occurs at the ankle?
Dorsi and plantar flexion
What movement occurs at a ball and socket joint?
Rotation, circumduction, flexion, extension, abduction and adduction e.g. hip and shoulder
What movement occurs at a condyloid joint?
Flexion and extension e.g. wrist
What is the function of short bones?
Usually associated with weight bearing and shock absorption
What is the function of flat bones?
Protect organs or offer a good surface for muscles to attach onto
