To reduce the chance of injury
What is an example of protective clothing in horseriding?
They wear helmets. This means that if they fall off, then their head is protected which reduces the chance of injury.
Why should equipment/facilities be checked before use?
To ensure they are safe.
Which equipment prevents injury for a gymnast?
- Mats in case they fall
- Spotters to prevent them falling and injuring themselves
How are the facilities made safe for a netball player?
- Posts are covered in foam to prevent injury if a player runs into it
- The pitch is clear of all trip hazard such as water or ice
Why are warm ups important for preventing injury?
They ensure the musculoskeletal system is warmed up. This includes warming and stretching muscles to increase flexibility as well as warming up joints to increase mobility.
How should injuries be treated?
Rest - stop any activity and rest the injured part of the body.
Ice - hold ice to the injured part of the body
Compression - press down whilst holding the ice at the injured part of the body
Elevation - raise the injured part of the body
What is the importance of a cool down?
- Helps reduce how sore a person feels after exercise
- Helps to remove lactic acid
- Helps prevent delayed onset muscles soreness
