What is the fulcrum?
The point around which the lever rotates.
What is the load?
The force that is applied to the lever system.
What is the effort?
This is applied by the user of the lever system.
Define a lever system.
A system of muscles and bones working together to help you move.
What is a first class lever?
Where the fulcrum sits in the middle, between the load and the effort.
What is a second class lever?
The load sits in the middle, between the fulcrum and the effort.
What is a third class lever?
The effort is applied between the load and the fulcrum.
What is mechanical advantage?
The output of the lever is greater than the input. The load is greater than the effort e.g. first and second class levers.
What is mechanical disadvantage?
The input of the lever is greater than the output. The force you apply is greater than the load, so you are putting in more than you are getting out e.g. third class lever.
