SKELETAL SYSTEM Flashcards
The skeletal and muscular systems are very closely linked and are often referred to as the
musculo-skeletal system
provides the framework that allows movement to take place
skeleton
provide the energy to pull our bones and joints into the correct positions needed for different types of physical activity
skeletal muscles
provides the body with an overall structural framework
skeletal system
two divisions of the skeletal system
axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton
found around the VERTICAL AXIS of the body
Axial Skeleton
the axial skeleton includes
skull, vertebral column, sternum (breastbone), and ribs.
consists of the UPPER AND LOWER LIMBS and the girdles that attach the limbs to the axial skeleton.
Appendicular Skeleton
The pectoral girdle (or shoulder) is associated with the
upper limbs (arms)
the pelvic girdle (or pelvis) is associated with the
lower limbs (legs)
bones that are arranged in a manner that allows people to PERFORM BASIC FUNCTIONS such as locomotion, gathering food and other objects, and using tools.
appendicular skeletal system
The bones of the appendicular skeletal system are also involved in
protection, mineral storage, and production of blood cells and platelets
The BONY FRAMEWORK upon which the rest of the body is built.
skeleton
It provides ATTACHMENTS for the muscular system and carries and protects the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
Skeleton
This ATTACHES TO and MOVES the skeleton.
