What is a world religion?
A religion found in more countries than its country of origin.
Can you give an example?
When was Judaism founded?
2000BCE - around 4000 years ago
Who founded Judaism?
The prophet Abraham, however, Moses (1500BCE) is considered to be very important.
How many gods to Jews believe in?
One - they are monotheists.
What do Jews believe God promised them?
The land of Israel and they believe they are God’s special people.
Where did Christianity grow from?
Judaism, and Christianity shares some of its beliefs such as the belief in one God.
Where and when was Christianity founded?
In Israel in about 30CE by Jesus.
What does Christ mean?
It is Greek for the Hebrew word for the Messiah. It means Christian’s believe that Jesus was the Son of God.
When was Islam founded?
610CE in Saudia Arabia by the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
Muslims have a tradition of not showing images of Muhammed.
Who do Muslims also recognises as prophets of the one God they worship and call Allah?
Abraham, Moses and Jesus
What is the holy book for Muslims?
The Qur’an which was wisdom from Allah given to Muhammed.
What are the Indian religions?
Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism
Who is the founder of Hinduism?
There is no one founder of Hinduism.
How far does Hinduism date back to?
An Indian tradition dating back to around 1500BCE - many of its ideas and practices are much older.
Give some examples Hindu of gods and goddesses
Shiva, Ganesh and Parvati
Who are these Hindu gods and goddesses disguises of?
The one God Hindus call Brahman.
What makes Buddhism different from all the other world religions?
It is the only one that does not talk about God.
How was Buddhism founded?
As a rejection of some parts of early Hinduism.

Is Buddhism technically a religion?
It is a way of life and kind of philosophy which uses meditation to discover what Buddhists see as being the truth about human life and the world.

In 1499CE, making it the youngest of the 6 world religions
