God continues to communicate with the world as the Holy Spirit
What did Christianity grow from?
Judaism, Jesus was born a Jew
What is Messiah?
Christianity took from the Jewish scriptures the idea of the Messiah.
Messiah means ‘God’s chosen one’.
‘Christ’ is the Greek version of the Hebrew word ‘Messiah’.
What do Christians believe of the Messiah?
The Messiah, Jesus Christ, would save the world from sin and heal the separation between God and mankind.
How do Christians believe that Jesus died?
Jesus died on the cross
Rose from the dead
Ascended into heaven after appearing to his disciples and about 500 other people.
What else do Christians believe about Jesus’ death?
It actually happened in history and happened for a reason.
This reason was that Jesus’ death and resurrection was about reconnecting God and humans, the spiritual and the material world.
What do Christians believe about the afterlife?
Usually involves heaven and hell
Heaven is in presence of God
Hell is where God is not
What is purgatory to Christians?
The idea of a place where souls can be purified before entering into heaven
What do Christians believe separates them from God?
Selfishness both in the afterlife and in this world.
Letting go of selfishness, and being loving, brings them closer to God.
