Simple Organs: Membranes Flashcards
1
Q
Membranes Overview
A
- Simplest Organs
- Only 2 types
- Consist of epithelium ATTACHED to CT (with basement membrane BETWEEN)
2
Q
Mucous Membranes (mucosa)
A
-Line cavities which open directly to the body exterior
-2 Layers:
1- Epithelial layer (avascular) varies from simple squamous to pseudostratified
2- CT ( loose areolar - vascular) named the LAMINA PROPRIA, nourishes epithelial cells
3
Q
Serous Membranes (serosa)
A
- Line closed cavities (covers the organs in said cavities)
-double membranes - each composed of epithelial layers next to serous cavity and CTs (areolar):
1 -Parietal Layer - against cavity wall
2- Visceral Layer- against organ
4
Q
Serous Membranes part 2 (Name for location)
A
-Serous fluid between layers
-Name for location:
Pleura – lung
Peritoneum – Abdominal organs
Pericardium – heart
5
Q
Synovial Membranes
A
- in joints
- Areolar CT, no epithelium (only ONE tissue)
6
Q
Cutaneous Membranes
A
-Skin
Epithelium = stratified squamous
CT= areolar and dense irregular
