Signal Transduction Flashcards
Outline 3 types of cell surface receptors;
1) enzyme-coupled receptors
2) G protein-coupled receptors
3) ion-coupled receptors
Outline the general aspects of signal transduction;
• ligand binding
• receptor activation
• recruitment of adaptor proteins to form protein complex’s
• activation of effector proteins
What is the largest family of enzyme coupled receptors?
Receptor tyrosine kinases
What are kinases?
Enzymes that phosphorylase their target substrates
What is epidermal growth factor (EGF receptors)
Stimulate cell survival, growth, proliferation
What is grb2?
Growth factor receptor bound protein 2
An adapter protein with SH2 and SH3 domains
What is the general mechanism for activation / inactivation?
Signalling proteins generally exist in an on/off state and be shifted from one to the other rapidly
