amiodarone: side effects
antiarrhythmic - contains high levels of iodine and may affect thyroid function
rx iodine (potassium iodine/SSKI, Lugol’s solution): side effects
reduces size and vascularity of thyroid - stains teeth so give in milk or juice with straw
thiazides: side effects
retain calcium
steroids - ADD
decrease Ca by excreting it through GI tract
alcohol: side effects
suppresses ADH and is hypertonic
digoxin toxicity
early: anorexia, nausea, vomiting
late: arrhythmias (AV block, PVC), brady, visual disturbances
K+ trouble! hypokalemia + digoxin = toxicity!
morphine toxicity
pin point pupils
RR less than 13/min

nursing: with meals to minimize gi upset, oral hygiene, never mix with other drugs
