SI and Hip Flashcards
Attachments of sacrotuberous ligament
posterior iliac spine & lateral margin of sacrum to ischial tuberosity
Attachments of sacrospinous ligament
ischial spine to lateral margin of the sacrum
Attachments of fibrous joint capsule
margin of acetabulum to the neck, intertrochanteric line and crest of femur
Attachments of iliofemoral
anterior inferior iliac spine to the intertrochanteric line of the femur
Attachments of pubofemoral
iliopubic eminence and superior pubic ramus to fibrous capsule
Attachments of ischiofemoral
ischium posterior to acetabulum to the greater trochanter & iliofemoral ligament
Attachments of ligamentum teres (ligament of the head of the femur)
fovea of the femoral head to the acetabular notch
Function of iliofemoral ligament
limits extension of the femur on the acetabulum, taught with femoral external rotation and internal rotation
Function of pubofemoral ligament
limits abduction of the femur, tightens up in extension and external rotation of hip
Function of ischiofemoral ligament
assists the iliofemoral ligament in limiting extension of the femur; tightens up in internal rotation and adduction
Arthrokinematics of hip flexion
spin with slight inferior and posterior glide at terminal motion
Arthrokinematics of hip extension
spin with slight anterior and superior glide at terminal motion
Arthokinematics of hip external rotation
anterior glide
Arthokinematics of hip internal rotation
posterior glide
Arthrokinematics of hip adduction
superior glide
Arthrokinematics of hip abduction
inferior glide
Synovial classification of sacroiliac joint
planar
Synovial classification of hip joint
ball & socket
Nutation of sacrum on innominate
Top of the sacrum moves anterior-inferior, bottom of the sacrum moves superior-posterior
Inferoposterior glide
Counter nutation of sacrum on innominate
Superior aspect of sacrum moves posterior; inferior aspect moves anterior
Anterosuperior glide
Normal angle of inclincation
125°
Coxa vara
decreased angle of inclination (115°); more of the femoral head is covered by the acetabulum
Coxa valga
increased angle of inclination (140°); reduced coverage of femoral head by acetabulum
Normal angle of torsion
8-15°
Excessive anteversion
Increased angle of torsion; in-toeing to center femoral head
Retroversion
Decreased angle of torsion; toe out to center femoral head
What is the lunate surface of the acetabulum closed off by?
transverse acetabular ligament
