Special tests
Empy can test Neer's Hawkin's Sulcus Apprehension
Neuro
Radial: Wrist flexion and extension
Ulnar: Abduction of fingers
Median: Opposition of thumbs (okay sign)
Empty can test-how to perform it and testing for
Hold arms in 45 degrees of horizontal adduction; have pt turn thumbs down, apply pressure to forearms and tell pt not to let you push their arms down
+ supraspinatus tear
Neer’s-how to perform it and testing for
Thumb down, passive flexion while holding scapula in
+ impingement if pain at >90 degrees
Hawkin’s test-how to perform it and testing for
Shoulder at 90 degrees abduction and elbow at 90 degrees of flexion; passively int. rot.
+ subacromial bursitis, impingement
Sulcus test-how to perform it and testing for
pt relaxes arm and examiner applies a downward traction pull on the distal humerus
+ dislocation, instability
Apprehension test-how to perform it and testing for
shoulder at 90 degrees, elbow flexed, ext. rot. of arm with hand on scapua
+ anterior GH instability
