Shocks Flashcards
Shock?
Inadequate perfusion
Septic shock can do what?
releases massive histamine release, lowering BP
Compensated shock?
Increased Alpha 1, Beta 1
Increased depth and rate or respiration
Tachycardia, tachypnea, pale, cool, moist, normotension
Relative hypovolemia? (4 shocks)
Container problem (Vasodilation)
Absolute hypovolemia
Volume problem (hemorrhage. metabolic)
Cardiogenic and obstructive shock?
Pump problem
Stage 1 of hypovolemic shock?
Mild
< 15% blood loss
Minimal vital changes and blood loss
Stage 2 of hypovolemic shock?
Moderate
20-25% blood loss
Pulse and resp increased
Thirst and pallor present
Stage 3 of hypovolemic shock?
Severe
30-35% blood loss
Mechanism failing
(All signs of shock possible)
Stage 4 of hypovolemic shock?
Catastrophic
> 40% blood loss
No palpable pulses
Chemoreceptors?
Senses changes in chemical levels
Ex: CO2, O2, glucose and acid & base balance
Baroreceptors?
Sense decrease in BP
Where are Baroreceptors located?
Carotid and aortic arch
Hypovolemic shock S&S (Compensated)
Tachycardia
Normotension
Cardiogenic shock S&S? (Compensated)
Irregular pulses
