What is the age limit for a diagnosis of schizophrenia
Do not diagnosis until after age 7. To rule out ADHD with violent tendencies.
What is schizophrenia
Psychotic thinking or behavior present for at least 6 months. Areas of functioning, including school or work, self care,and interpersonal relationships are significantly impaired.
What is schizotypical personality disorder
Impairments of personality ( self and interpersonal) functioning. However, impairment is not as severe as with schizophrenia
Delusional disorder
Delusional thinking for at least month, self or interpersonal functioning is not markedly impaired.
Brief phychotic disorder
Psychotic manifestations that last between 1 day to 1 month in duration
Schizpphreniform disorder
Manifestations similar to those of schizophrenia, bit the duration is 1-6 months and social/ occupational dysfunction may or may not be present
Schizoaffective disorder
Clients disorder meets both the criteria for schizophrenia and depressive or bipolar disorder.
Substance induced psychotic disorder
Client experiences psychosis within 1 month of substance intoxication or withdrawal. May be caused by medications intended for therapeutic use.
Wha are positive symptoms of schizophrenia
The manifestation of things that ARE NOT NORMALLY PRESENT
hallucinations, delusions,alterations in speech, bizarre behavior such as walking backwards.
What are negative symptoms of schizophrenia
The ABSENCE OF THINGS THAT SRE NORMALLY PRESENT
Affect- blunted or flat facial expressions
Alogia- poverty of thought or speech, may only mumble or respond vaguely to questions.
Anergia- lack of energy
Avolition- lack of motivation in activities or hygiene
Anhedonia- lack of pleasure or joy,

Problems with thinking make it very difficult for the client to live independently.
Disordered thinking,inability to make decisions,memory deficits

It is a type of delusion in which client misconstrues trivial events and attaches personal significance to them. Such as believing that others discussing the next meal are talking about him.

A type of delusion where one feels singled out for harm by others ( being hunted down by the FBI)
