Psychodynamic therapy
Focuses more on the clients present state rather than his early life.
Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT)
Assists clients in identifying specific problems
Cognitive therapy
Focuses on individual thoughts and behaviors to solve current problems
Behavioral therapies
Teach clients ways to decrease anxiety or avoidant behavior and give an opportunity to practice techniques
Dialectical behavior therapy
Is a cognitive behavior therapy for clients who have personality disorders or exhibit self injurious behavior. Focuses on gradual behavior changes
What does cognitive reframing do?
Assists clients to identify negative thoughts that produce anxiety, examine the cause, and develop supportive ideas to replace negative self talk
Modeling
A therapist demonstrates appropriate behavior in a situation with the goal of the client imitating the behavior
Operant conditioning
A client receives positive rewards for good behavior
Aversion therapy
Paring a maladaptive behavior with a punishment to promote change in behavior.
Flooding
Exposing a client to anxiety in an attempt to turn off the anxiety response
Response prevention
Preventing a client from performing a compulsive behavior with the intent the anxiety will diminish
Thought stopping
Encouraging the client to say STOP and substitute a positive thought for the negative one
Classical Psychoanalysis
Places a common focus on past relationships to identify the cause of the anxiety disorder.
