Shaping The Future Flashcards
Shaping the future - National Standard for Headteachers
Shared vision, shared culture & climate
Core value of my vision: “one world learning together”, Social justice, developing Global Citizens of the future who are culturally sensitive & respectful of others, life-long learners who are adaptable and who are able to develop new skills to meet changing patterns of employment for example it’s now suggested that many of our young people may have on average 19 different jobs in their working life. Schools need to prepare students for this changing working landscape.
Strategic school development plan
“The strategic planning process is critical to sustaining school improvement and ensuring that the school moves forward for the benefit of its pupils.”
Ensures creativity, innovation & the use of appropriate technologies to achieve excellence
Community cohesion - cultural diversity - quote from report
CONTEXT
I am a strategic thinker and I have experience of leading implementation of new initiatives & evaluation of whole school impact for the learners i.e. 2 Specialisms & International links
For example, at Upton, I applied to the BC for a Connecting Classrooms grant and partnership and this is how our partnership with the Yemen started.
VISION The aim of the project with the Yemen was to develop students and staff’s intercultural understanding. By bringing an international dimension in pupils’s learning, we are enabling young people to develop the skills and cultural awareness they need to become active global citizens, preparing them for life and work in a global society.
ACTION
I identified the Connecting Classrooms project as an aspect which would benefit from a process of organisational self-evaluation. Although evaluations had been conducted over the past 4 years, the impact had not necessarily been shared in an accessible format with pupils, staff and the community. I decided that the outcome should be shared in the form of a newsletter.
IMPACT
As a result of this self-evaluation project, the Connecting classrooms newsletter was shared with all staff and pupils involved and also placed on the school website. It is now an insert in the new school brochure and has been shared with the British Council and iNet. Very good feedback has been received from all parties.
CONTEXT - New Technologies
After taking part in a National College online conference on “the most advanced technological school in the country” run by Essa Academy in Bolton, I initiated a visit to the school and took another Senior Colleague with me together with an IT Technician, the new Head of English and our Librarian. This was a very inspiring day.
I believe the use of new technologies enhances students’ learning and motivation. iPads, for example, go beyond the use of interactive whiteboards and also enlist the support and interest of parents. The aim is to remove barriers to learning and technology is a catalyst and a driver for change that we cannot ignore as it gives pupils access to content on demand. It is a powerful tool in closing the attainment gap. This is a completely new learning ecosystem that I believe would deliver results.
We currently have a year 7 pilot group etc.
