Leading Learning And Teaching - National Standards

A

CONTEXT & ACTION + VISION Linked to Specialism
I encouraged pupils across the age range to register as Global Citizens through iNET & enter a national competition where they had to come up with an idea to change the world & liaised with staff to promote the scheme – Active learning activity written in SSDP.
IMPACT
Voting took place nationally & a large number of students and staff (teaching and non-teaching staff) joined in the activity and 2 Upton students’ idea came first. They subsequently represented the UK and their school at the iNet international conference in Michigan - Gig for Girls linked to Room to Read.
Whole school and community impact through assemblies, newsletters, website. Current ongoing work.

CONTEXT + VISION - Leading change, creativity & innovation
I went to the SSAT National Conference a few years ago and came across a demonstration of Wordwall, Software which enables staff to create dynamic exercises that encourage active learning.
ACTION- staff training in use of “Wordpads”, 1 per department to cascade experience throughout the school
IMPACT- excellent staff and student feedback
Students have said that they find it fun and educational and that it helps them learn better. They enjoy the fact that they get immediate feedback on their progress in a novel way.
Staff have also praised - add from newsletter

CONTEXT
Meeting the needs of underperforming EAL students

VISION
I Identified a need to encourage students to take GCSE or A ‘level examinations in their mother tongue to either increase their chances of getting the Ebac and/ or increase their overall confidence.

ACTION
Communicated with Assistant Head/Curriculum & Head of MFL to ensure students were given the opportunity. Organised & gave direct support to students to enable them to make the most of the opportunity & to boost morale & motivation.
Opened dialogue with SENCO & Headteacher to ensure sustainability of approach.
