Can you tell us about a time when you had to implement a difficult decision?
CONTEXT: I came up with the idea of having a yearly Year 8 Specialism week and this was written in the bid
VISION: the aim was to enrich the learning experience, embed the pSpecialism across the curriculum, motivate students and staff
ACTION: collapsed timetable, themed based around a country i.e. India, the Middle East, Africa etc. this year Latin America
IMPACT
Initial resistance 1st year , completely brand-new activity for staff, perceived as extra work.
Has been hugely successful over the last 5 years and is a curriculum activity staff now look forward to. They show a lot of interest months before the event . For students, evaluations show that they enjoy learning in a different way, that they rise to the challenge and that it is a memorable experience that develops their global awareness and enthusiasm for learning.
Ex: India week , R.S.: henna patterns involving members of the community, workshops with Roop Sing, Art project with our partner schools etc.
Successful management of change increasing interest in the curriculum, thinking skills and enjoyment for learning.
