A

Lymphogranuloma venereum
Small transient ulcer/proctitis followed by lymphadenopathy
Can have systemic symptoms

Tertiary symptoms: Fibrosis, lymphoedema, rectal stricture

  1. Rapid plasma reagin (RPR)/VDRL - detect antibodies, but not specific to syphilis
  2. TPPA (T. pallidum particle agglutination) antibodies specifically against syphilis but remain positive for life

Stages of syphilis

A
  1. Primary - painless chancre 3 -6 weeks after exposure
  2. Secondary - skin rash on palms and soles, flu symptoms, lymphadenopathy
  3. Latent - silent phase
  4. Tetiary
    - Without CNS involvement: syphilitic gumma (tumour0 /cardiovascular syphilis
    - Neurosyphilis - meningitis, cranial nerve/ocular involvement
