Session 4 extras Flashcards
What is G0?
Stage of cell cycle that some cells enter, not all
What happens in G0?
Cell is not going through cell cycle and dividing
simply performing its function
How do cells enter G0?
From G1
What are the types of G0?
Reversible
-quiscent
Irreversible
- differentiated
- senescent
What is reversible G0?
Cell can re-enter G1 and go through cell cycle and divide
What is irreversible G0?
Cell can never re-enter G1 and go through cell and divide
What is irreversible differentiated G0?
Cell is completely mature
What is irreversible senescent G0?
Cell has a lot of DNA damage
Why does the nucleolus disappear in mitosis?
Because it is partly made up of DNA
which condenses into chromosomes at the beginning of mitosis
How do homologous chromosomes find each other in meiosis metaphase 1?
Have similar genes, similar nucleotide base sequences
How do sex chromosomes find each other in meiosis metaphase 1?
Have some homologous regions with similar genes, similar nucleotide base sequences
