Beliefs that are not based in reality; reflect an unconscious need or fear
delusions
a FALSE sensory perception: seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, or tasting objects that are not there
hallucinations
located in cerebellum; part of brain responsible for bringing together info from the cerebellum & other brain parts as well as from the sense organs
RAS- Reticular Activating System
Telling a pt what they will (see, hear, smell, taste, or feel) in a particular situation
Sensory/sensation information
State of optimal sensory input, which differs for each person
sensoristasis
State where a person cannot manage the intensity or quantity of incoming sensory stimuli; cannot reason or make decisions as they become overwhelmed
sensory overload
Lack of meaningful sensory stimuli; monotonous input or interference with the processing of information; leads to behavioral changes ranging from boredom to psychosis
sensory deprivation
The ability to receive sensory input & transform the inputs through various physiologic processes into meaningful information
