What is an Interview?
A face to face interaction where an interviewer asks set of questions to interviewees about their thoughts/experiences
Structured interviews EVA (ADVANTAGE + DISADVANTAGE)
- Made up of pre-determined set of questions that are asked in a fixed order Verbal questionnaire
+ Easy to replicate as standardised format
- Interviewee can’t elaborate their points and imposes what the researcher values on the pt
Unstructured interviews EVA (ADV + DIS)
- More of a conversation General aim that a certain topic will be discussed, and interaction tends to be free-flowing interviewee encouraged to expand and elaborate when prompted
No set questions
+More flexibility as can have follow up questions therefore more insight

Semi-structured interview
- List of questions that have been worked out in advance but interviewer asks questions based on other answers
how to write a good question
avoid jargon
avoid double barrel questions
Avoid leading questions
closed questions + EVA
responds have limited choices e.g 11-16 16-18, 18-21
+ can produce graph charts for comparison
- pushes pp into an answer that may not represent feelings
open questions + EVA
respondant produces own answer expressed in words
+ answer more likely to provide detailed unexpected info, high external validity
- wide variety of answers than close questions, May be reduced to statistics
