ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS Flashcards
psychology research into the economy
Psychology and the economy.
Memory- Positive- the cognitive interview increases the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. This therefore enables better use of police time and resources- however it is seen as time consuming and expensive and also could lead to the conviction of more people.
Psychopathology- Development of treatment for disorders such as depression, anxiety and OCD. Many conditions are treated through drugs such as SSRIs for depression and OCD. GPs can also make referrals for therapies such as CBT and systematic desensitisation- positively influences the economy as more people are able to work. However labelling of issues may be common, for example pharmaceutical companies have an incentive to make money.
Social Influence- Conformity research can help us understand spending patterns, conformity in terms of education and school (obedience, authority to make us go to work) - encouraging us to higher paid jobs- then money spent to unis.
Attachment- The role of the father in the importance of attachment- led to more flexible working conditions for parents. For example, now parents can split parental leave so they can divide time off work they have (instead of being solely maternity leave). It can also ensure fathers can access flexible working hours to accommodate childcare responsibilities.
