- when respondent indicates their agreement with a scale of usually five points

- the authors’ attitudes can have an effect on the respondents answer and cause them to answer due to social desirability bias
- leading questions also guide respondents towards a particular answer causing the ppts to lack honesty in their responses

What is a double barrelled question
A
- contains two questions in one, problem comes if the respondent agrees with one half of the question but not the other
- questions that include double negatives can also be hard for respondents to decipher eg ‘i am not unhappy in my job’
