Self-Regulated Strategy Development Model Flashcards
SRSD
The goal is for students to internalize strategies and use them to learn. Recursive steps- can always go back if needed
Stage 1- Developing and activating background knowledge
this is where you need to define the skills a child needs to perform the strategy and assess child’s ability to do so.
Must either teach the skill needed for the strategy or change to match skill set
Stage 2- Discussing the strategy
You will need to “sell the strategy” and get student to want to use it
explain the benefits then introduce the steps
you want the child to have an internal motivator so they can eventually take ownership and are more likely to generalize it and use it later
Stage 3: Modeling the strategy
One of the most critical aspects
engage in think aloud so students can see how teacher verbalizes their thought processes throughtout the strategy
is is okay to make a mistake and self-correct
Stage 4: Memorizing the strategy
Committing steps to memory
Can use memory aid such as visual, verbal prompts or other supports
Stage 5: Supporting the Strategy
Teacher and student work together to practice until student can perform effectively and independently
Scaffolding is important at this stage
Stage 6: Independent Performance
Student is ready to use strategy independently
teacher should monitor performance and proper use
this is where you know if you were successful or not
