RTI MODEL INTERVENTION Flashcards
What is Response to Intervention
RTI is the practice of providing high quality instruction/intervention matched to students needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make educational decisions. It consists of three tiers. It should also be used along side with positive behavioral support systems.
Tier 1
Core instructional program “Universal Screening”
80-90% of students should meet benchmark (80% rule)
Preventative, proactive
All students take screen
progress monitoring: 3 times per year
global indicator- like taking the temperature of the whole school to make sure no one is at risk
identify “at risk” and in need of closer monitoring
Tier 2
“at risk” students that need additional instruction
-5-15% of students
some individualizing, rapid response
small group instruction (3-5 students)
3-5 days per week lasting 20-30 min
9-30 week interventions
parents must be notified
mastery requirement: criterion on screening measures and continued growth
additional information: students below 20th percentile (20th rule) or below aim line for 3 consecutive times (change from small group to individualized rule)
Tier 3
when students demonstrate insufficient progress int Tier 2
1-5% of students
highly intensice, assessment based
individualized approach (1-2 students)
progress monitoring: at least once a week
4 times a week; minimum of 30 minutes
parents notified in writing
mastery requirement: relative to level or performance and continued growth
