Self-Management Flashcards
Identify the basic elements of self-management.
Occurs when a person engages in bx at one time to control the occurrence of another bx at a later time.
- Involves a CONTROLLING behavior & a CONTROLLED behavior.
Identify the various types of antecedent manipulations that can be used in a self-management program.
- Presenting the SD or Cue for the desirable target bx.
- Removing the SD or Cue for competing undesirable bx.
- Arranging an EO for the desirable bx.
- Arranging an AO for the undesirable bx.
- Decreasing/Increasing response effort for bxs.
What is Social Support? Example-
When significant others provide a natural context or cues for the occurrence of the target bx or when they provide reinforcing consequences for the occurrence of the target bx. E.g. Scheduling exercise with friends- friends are providing a natural context for reinforcement; getting to spend time with friends also a natural positive reinforcer contingent on exercising.
Provide an example of the use of self-instructions in a self-management program. How do you learn self-instructions to use in self-management?
Eg- telling yourself what/how to do something- reciting the bunny ears technique when tying your shoes.
Learning self-instructions-
- Identify the self-statements
- Determine the most appropriate time/place to use them.
- Rehearse in role-play or imagine the situation.
- Plan to use them only after they are well learned.
