A

disease = pathological changes diagnosed by signs and symptoms- abnormality in structure or function of body organs or systems - considered to be objective

Illness- subjective experience of negative changes in states of well-being and in social function - defined and responded to different people

A

biomedial = based solely on the illness and the responsibility of the medication/medical professionals

biopsychosocial = illness is multifactorial, dependent on many things and th treatment of it depends on the patient and the medical professionals together

Identity = label given to illness and symptoms associated with it

Causality = the factors contributing to the development of the disease

Timeline = beliefs about how long the illness will last

Consequences = beliefs about the possible effects of the illness on their life

curability/controllability = is there a cure? Can it be controlled?

emotional = whether the illness makes the patinet scared/distressed

A

Identity - upon chest pain

  • positive= call an ambulance
  • negative = i’ll just rest

Causality - smoking

  • positive = can change
  • negative = can’t change outcome

Timeline-

  • positive = chronic problem - I can stop from happening again
  • negative = acute problem - It’s over now , damage done

Consequences

  • positive = long term good
  • negative = long term poor - that’s me gone in a couple years

control/cure

  • positive = lifestyle change can help
  • negativie = when your time is up it’s up!
