Ultra-short-acting nonbarbiturate hypnotic with no analgesic effects and limited cardiovascular/respiratory effects

Induce sedation for rapid sequence intubation

Head injury if no paralytics used, marked hypotension, severe asthma, severe cardiovascular disease

Dosage
Adult: 0.1-0.3 mg/kg IV over 15-30 sec
Pedi: children > 10yrs same

Believed to block dopamine receptors in the brain associated with mood/behavior, potent antiemetic, impairs temperature regulation

Parkinson’s, seizure disorders, coma, alcohol depression, CNS depression, thyrotoxicosis, and with other sedatives

Orthostatic hypotension

Dosage
Age>12, 2-5 mg IM.
Age>65, 2.5mg
Repeat q5mins
Max 10mg
Mixed with Benadryl to advoid EPS reactions
