Discription
Short acting benzodiazepine with CNS depression, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, and anterograde amnestic effects

Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepine, narrow angle glaucoma, shock, coma, or acute alcohol intoxication

Indications
Induce sedation before cardioversion or intubation, seizures

Precautions
Elderly, COPD, CHF, renal impairment

Adult dose
Adult: 2.5mg
Age>65: 1-2.5
Repeat one time to MAX 5mg
Excited delirium
Adult: 5mg
Age>65: 2.5mg
Repeat 2.5mg q 5mins MAX 10mg
Seizure
Adult: 10mg IM Max 20mg
Pedi: 0.2mg/kg Max 10mg IM or Max 2.5mg IN/IO/IV

Pure narcotic antagonist that blocks effect of natural/synthetic narcotics and may respiratory depression

Possible dependncy (including newborns). Half-life shorter than most narcotics

Hypersensitivity, non narcotic induced repository depression

0.4 to 2 mg IV/IM/IN repeated/2 to 3 min as needed up to 10 mg

Seizure: 4mg IV/IO Max 10mg

Repeat 3-5 mins MAX 5mg
Excited delirium
0.2mg/kg MAX initial dose 5mg
Repeat 0.2mg/kg q 5mins MAX 10mg
